Abstract
Index generation at LaTeX uses an index processor, e.g. MakeIndex or
Xindy, and a LaTeX package. With the default LaTeX index package
makeidx you may use only one index. There are serveral
packages to produce more than one index, e.g. index,
multiind, ... All these packages are limited by the number
of output handles of TeX (at least 16). SplitIndex hat no such
limitation.
Purpose of the Open SplitIndex Project
The main purpose of the open SplitIndex Project is, to find persons, who are interested in supporting on of the OS-depending splitindex binaries. There are still binaries at the SplitIndex release on CTAN. But maybe you are able and interested in having one more native binary?
Another pupose is the improvement of the documentation.
